Tall Ships 2000   Photographs of many of the Ships participating
In July 2000, Canada welcomed back the tall ships to the shores of Nova Scotia, as Halifax became the Official Canadian Race Port for the Tall Ships 2000® series. The stop in Halifax was part of a four-month voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, featuring almost 150 world-class tall ships from around the globe.

Nova Scotia Images   Photographs by Maurice R. Crosby
Our concept is to create an image whose mood, colour, texture, and even the frame, combine to enhance any room or office, to give lasting pleasure and become a cherished possession.

To do this, our photographs are individually hand-crafted to the highest standard in the photographic industry. Each print is bonded to solid surface, signed, laminated, and textured to ensure permanency. Our gallery frames are of the best quality wood, the liner is made from a single piece of imported linen, which adds depth and design to the finished product. Unframed prints are edged with black tape and may be hung as is. Each print comes with a polished brass plaque.

Some photographs in this gallery are of a limited edition series. Each limited edition print is numbered and covered by a copyright. A Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Maurice Crosby is provided.

The MacAskill Collection   Photographs by Wallace R. MacAskill
A Nova Scotian born and bred, MacAskill was one of the first Canadian photographers to achieve distinction in international salons where his work was not only admired for its technical excellence but for the truth of its statements about men and the sea.

The legacy he bequeathed to his native Nova Scotia is a magnificient collection of photographs, unequalled in quality and variety. Some bear the unforgettable quietude of a bay or inlet along Nova Scotia's rocky coast; others mark the majesty of the sea or the land in which he lived. And then there are those glorious prints made during the reign of Canada's immortal schooner "Bluenose" and her valiant (and unsuccessful) competitors.

One of his photographs of the Bluenose became the subject of a commerative postage stamp issued in 1929, and in 1937 another was used on the Canadian ten cent piece, where it still appears to this day.

Eastern Exposure   Photographs by Serge J. Cournoyer
The name "Eastern Exposure" incorporates two themes: the rich hues of the morning light and the concentration on images of eastern Canada.

Serge has been travelling and photographing the "back country" for many years. He has extensive practical experience in living in the woods, and has pursued several provincial government sponsored Outdoor Leadership Programs. These programs include: Wilderness Ethics, Wilderness Navigation, Survival, Emergency Procedures, and Emergency First Aid and CPR. Serge has also facilitated groups using the Adventure Based Counselling Model, and is a trainer in Stress Management.

Enjoy the beauty of Nova Scotia. Plan a One Day Excursion into the wilderness or seaside. Paddle a quiet river, follow a trail in search of wild flowers, or photograph waves crashing on rocks in a secluded cove. View the Gallery for a sample of the photographic opportunities available to the traveller who wants to get off the beaten track.

Plan an Overnight Wilderness Adventure: Take your camera to a truly far off place, experience the "backcountry" of Kejimkujik National Park, canoe some of the many lakes and rivers, or hike deep into the Nova Scotia forest in search of the elusive moose. You decide the degree of difficulty.

John and Rita Williams   Photographs by John and Rita Williams
John and Rita Williams both grew up near Boston, Massachusetts. Having enjoyed taking pictures since he was a little boy, John can still recall shooting with his Kodak Brownie camera. Having travelled to Florida, California, Oregon as well as Nova Scotia, both enjoy our picturesque seascapes, lighthouses and overall scenic beauty.

Rita's photograph of Mending the Nets was displayed by the Gloucester (Mass.) Chamber of Commerce. John's photograph of Peace in the Park - Wolfville, Nova Scotia won an honorable mention at the recent Massachusetts Genereal Hospital employee photo contest. Music
Music Nova Scotia   Songs of the province
Music has long been at the heart of Nova Scotia life. Over the past three hundred years a diverse blend of many cultures has settled here - Irish, Scottish, French, and many others - all bringing with them their various traditional styles, creating a unique musical blend equally diverse, complementing its heritage. International interest in Nova Scotia's sound is growing rapidly, and many of our artists are gaining popularity throughout the world. Below you will find a list of some of our finest artists and their recordings that we have chosen to feature.

Stories
Music Tales   Stories revolving around Nova Scotia's rich musical traditions.
Nova Scotia has long been famous for its breath-taking vistas, record-breaking schooners and mouth-watering seafood. Another claim to fame is our rich tradition of music which in the 1990s is taking the world by storm.

Traditional Scottish strathpeys, toe-tapping Acadian jigs, inspirational gospel hymns, or blistering Celtic rock--our music expresses who we are. It's seen us through hard times (in 1956, men trapped in the Springhill mine for eight days without food or water survived on "songs and hope instead") and it's helped us celebrate the good times. Nova Scotians have always loved their music, and now, it seems, so does the world.

Sea Tales   As a maritime province, Nova Scotia has a bounty of marine stories to capture the imagination.
Nova Scotia is the sea. With almost 8,000 kilometers of coastline, its history and culture are inextricably linked to everything maritime. From pirates and privateers to sea shanties and ships, Nova Scotia is rich with folklore and tradition. Join us as we celebrate its heritage.
